Team Speak
OK guys, as some of you know, a few of us
use Skype to talk while we play.
Skype is great for quallity calls and it gives the ability
to call real land lines too, the thing with Skype is that
you need an account (free), and if you want to have more then
2 people in a conversation, then someone has to host the conference
and it takes a computer with a little grunt and a good internet
connection too, which is fine for most PC's running with just
Skype, no problems, but Skype uses a compression codec that
makes the CPU in the computer run between 25% - 50%, so playing
ROSE at the same time, you need a decent PC (or one in good
order) or sometimes problems can occur.
So... We want to get you all talking here guys, so now we
have TeamSpeak, instead of working between each of us, it
works by us connecting to a host server that handles most
of the work = good for us
TeamSpeak does work on accounts too, but, also without, which
is good for you guys. And we can have many "rooms"
in a server too, so we're all not in the same place all talking
at the same time.
Xenexprime (Johnathan) from Retard Mafia has been kind enough
to find a nice free server for us all to use, and it has been
dedicated to our ROSE alliance members Very Happy Very Happy
How cool is that!
So, here I am to show you all how to get connected if you
don't already know how. First of all, you will need:
- A computer (you have that Razz )
- Soundcard (Hard to find a PC without one)
- An internet connection (yup, you have that too)
- A headset with a microphone or speakers and mic will work,
but sounds crap (If you can, get the ones with a volume
and mic switch on the cord - especially if your keyboard
doesn't have a volume control)
- The TeamSpeak program (gonna show you how to get that
one)
- The ability of speech (or atleast grunts of agreement/disagreement)
All set? OK...
1) Setup
For those of you who just raced out and bought a headset
with a mic, and are sitting there thinking "OK, now what..."
At the back of your PC (sometimes front) plug the green(or
black) plug into the green 3.5mm stereo socket, and the pink(or
red) into the pink 3.5mm stereo socket.
Some of you may have the speakers plugged in, in that case
you can either keep swapping them, or some speakers have a
headphone jack on one of them, in which case you may need
an extension for the mic cord, or you can get what is called
a "3.5mm Stereo Double Adapter" which is quite easy
to get, and you can have both plugged in at once.
2) Downloading TeamSpeak
In our links page is a link to the TeamSpeak website or you
can click HERE to go straight to the download section
Download the "TeamSpeak 2 Client", just the normal
version, no need for the BETA version, choose "Site 1"
, accept the agreement and follow the rest to download it
to your desktop or where ever.
Install by the regular "next, next, next", the
program will then install the needed codecs "next, next,
finish"
Finally, let the program launch and don't forget to allow
it through your firewall if it asks, and if you have one.
3 - Configuring TS
Once it opens, the first thing you want to do is to setup
the voice section

In here you can set it to either: Push to talk (Recommended)
or Voice Activation

The reason that 'Push to talk' is recommended it that it
doesn't rely on the program knowing what is good sounds to
push out to use, instead you press a key when you want to
talk, like a 'walkie-talkie'.
I recommend the "Insert" key, as Rose doesn't use,
it, however if you forget that you have insert turned on or
off it can be fun inserting words when you type.
Some good keys to use: "Insert", "End",
"Pause/Break"
Bad keys are keys that type a characer or for use in ROSE,
like the F keys, or "CTRL" and "ALT
You can also in here, adjust the sound output volume, I suggest
you find a nice balance that goes well with any other sound
you may have running, like music or Rose sounds.
Use the "Avtivate Local Test Mode" button to test
your voice and play with it.
If you find that your voice is too quiet or too loud, you
may want to adjust the "mic boost" function in the
volume control.
4 - Connecting TS
OK, ready to join us now? cool!
Click on the 'Connection' menu and choose "Connect"

Next, right-click in the blank spot and choose "Add
Server"
Enter all the info you see here in my screenshot, except,
obviously choose your own Nickname.

Note: If you wish to know the password, please
ask Lensfort or Titiana
The reason that I have put a password on the channel is because
this is a public server and I think it's best we can have
a spot where we can be safe from any fool who comes along.
If we get too many people who are not in SA or allinace clans,
I will have to PM or e-mail out a password to only forum accounts.
The password is not there to block alliance clans.
The most important info is
Server: 66.29.7.122:9332
Type : Anonymous
Nickname : (yours)
If you don't put in the "Default Channel" and password,
you will simply start in the "Lobby"
OK, all done, click "Connect" and your settings
will now be saved!
You will see this screen
5 - Moving around TS

OK, so as you can see you are in the SA channel, unfortunately,
you will have to enter that password when you want to enter
that channel again if you move out. But it's not hard Smile
When you are AFK, we have a room/channel for you to move
to, you can see here that "xenexprime" and "weedad"
are AFK now.
To move channel, just right-click on the one you want, and
choose "Switch to Channel" - easy huh!
Now, don't forget the key you set for talking...
As a favor, I ask that everyone that can use this, to login
and sit in the SA channel while you play, even if you are
the only one on, it's nice to come in and see someone sitting
there to talk to.
One more thing guys, the same rules apply in TS as they do
ingame and on forums and gallery, so be nice.
HAVE FUN GUYS
